Seen Strangely Through Glass

I interpreted "Seen Strangely Through Glass" as photography being shown as a creative and modern

take on art. The way in which a camera can be used to photograph a subject through glass represents

the perspective that somebody can view real and everyday life. For my photography I picked a subject,

which in this instance was a pair of shoes, and combined this with the lense of my glasses. The final result

of this created a distorted image of the subject appearing much smaller than if the lense was not

in front of the camera. However, the angle of the photo was taken so not the entire shoe filled up the

lense of the glasses. This resulted in the shoe appearing then partially disappear and reappear in

normal proportions on the outside of the glasses. This creates the illusion of the normally proportioned

shoe entirely disappearing and seemingly shrink when viewed through the glasses, this in turn creates

an abstract perspective on how the shoe and ankle connect to the rest of the leg. This is evident in the

laces and the socks. The top of the laces has the same effect as the back of the shoe, however in

comparison appears more distorted in the reappearance. For example, the top loop of the laces

reappear larger but does so at a different angle than what is seen through the lense as it is shown to

be to the right of the distorted image. This disrupts the originality of the subject which therefore means

the reality of the image has been purposely changed, manufacturing an abstract perspective to the

subject. Linking back to my original point, the image taken in turn symbolizes how things are not as

they always appear when viewed through a certain perspective. If taken at a different angle or if the

glasses were to be removed from frame, the image would be changed greatly due to the manufacturing

of the photograph.
